Sally has been a Research Fellow at the University Western Sydney (UWS), SCHIMA Unit and was awarded the Helen Row Zonta Memorial Prize for Services to Women in Mental Health.
She is also a Board Member of the National Association for Loss and Grief (NALAG).
She has worked in the policy area for NSW Health focusing on trauma and disaster response planning soon after the Sydney Olympics and the 9/11 World Trade Centre attacks. She has been involved in consultations and emergency mental health response planning and training and procedures in the wake of both Bali Bombings, the Victorian bushfires, the Qld floods, and other natural disasters. She is co-author on a number of national and international peer reviewed chapters and journal articles in this area.
Sally has published nationally and internationally in the areas of the assessment and treatment of trauma, bereavement and grief and loss including a recent chapter in the New Oxford Textbook of Psychiatry (2nd edn). She has co-authored a report for the WHO promoting mental health and worked with the Australian Red Cross as part of a national document on disaster response and Psychological First Aid (PFA).
